APPROXIMATELY 500 PSI IS INDICATED ON HIGH PRESSURE OUTPUT GAUGE.
SET POWER SWITCH TO ON.
        (3) INCREASE OUTPUT PRESSURE TO 1000 PSI. OPEN HIGH
PRESSURE AND RETURN BLEED VALVES TO REMOVE AIR. CLOSE VALVE WHEN
RED MIST IN VIEW PORTS IS SOLID RED IN COLOR.
        (4) INCREASE PRESSURE TO 2000 PSI. OPEN HIGH PRESSURE
BYPASS 1/4 TURN. IF SYSTEM READY LIGHT IS NOT ON, WAIT UNTIL THE
TEMPERATURE RISES 10 DEGREES, THEN OPEN VALVE ANOTHER 1/4 TURN.
REPEAT UNTIL SYSTEM READY LIGHT COMES ON. OPEN THE HIGH PRESSURE
BYPASS UNTIL THE PRESSURE STARTS TO DROP. CONTINUE TO OPERATE
FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 MINUTES.
        (5) CLOSE HIGH PRESSURE BYPASS, REDUCE PRESSURE TO 500 PSI,
SET POWER SWITCH TO OFF, AND SHUTDOWN ENGINE.
        (6) SAMPLE THE FLUID IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE AGPU
SHOULD BE LOCATED IN A SHELTERED AREA AS FREE AS POSSIBLE FROM RAIN
OR AIRBORNE CONTAMINATION. TAKE A SAMPLE FROM THE HIGH PRESSURE
GAUGE CALIBRATION PORT ON THE AGPU HYDRAULIC CONTROL PANEL. USE AN
EMPTY QUART CAN OR SIMILAR WASTE RECEPTACLE TO COLLECT FLUID THAT
WILL BE DRAINED FROM THE PORT BEFORE AND AFTER THE SAMPLE IS TAKEN.
        (7) USE A 3-OUNCE AOAP PLASTIC BOTTLE TO COLLECT SAMPLE
AS FOLLOWS -
             (A) CLOSE THE GAUGE SHUTOFF VALVE AND FULLY OPEN THE
HIGH PRESSURE BLEED VALVE. REMOVE THE CAP FROM THE HIGH PRESSURE
GAUGE CALIBRATION PORT. OPEN THE HIGH PRESSURE GAUGE SHUTOFF VALVE
AND DRAIN APPROXIMATELY 3 OUNCES OF FLUID INTO THE WASTE RECEPTACLE.
THIS PROCEDURE SERVES TO FLUSH AWAY ANY CONTAMINANTS IN THE SAMPLING
LINE AND ANY CONTAMINANTS GENERATED BY VALVE OPERATIONS.
             (B) WITHOUT INTERRUPTING THE FLOW OF FLUID, PLACE A
CLEAN 3-OZ AOAP SAMPLE BOTTLE UNDER THE FLUID STREAM AND PARTIALLY
FILL BOTTLE (APPROX. 1/4 INCH FROM BOTTOM). REMOVE BOTTLE FROM
STREAM AND SHUT OFF FLOW.
             (C) CAP BOTTLE AND SHAKE VIGOROUSLY. REMOVE CAP AND
DRAIN BOTTLE INTO WASTE RECEPTACLE.
             (D) RINSE THE BOTTLE A SECOND TIME BY OPENING GAUGE
SHUTOFF VALVE AND REPEATING STEPS (B) AND (C).
             (E) OPEN THE HIGH PRESSURE GAUGE SHUTOFF VALVE AND
AGAIN ALLOW AN INITIAL QUANTITY OF APPROXIMATELY 3 OUNCES TO FLOW
INTO WASTE RECEPTACLE.
             (F) WITHOUT INTERRUPTING THE FLOW OF FLUID, TAKE THE
SAMPLE BY PLACING THE RINSED BOTTLE UNDER THE FLUID STREAM AND FILL
BOTTLE TO ITS SHOULDER LEAVING APPROXIMATELY 1/2-INCH AIR SPACE FROM
TOP.
             (G) REMOVE THE SAMPLE BOTTLE FROM THE STREAM AND
IMMEDIATELY CAP THE BOTTLE. CLOSE THE SHUTOFF VALVE ONLY AFTER THE
SAMPLE BOTTLE HAS BEEN REMOVED.
             (H) REINSTALL THE CAP ON THE HIGH PRESSURE GAUGE
CALIBRATION PORT AND OPEN THE GAUGE SHUTOFF VALVE 1/4 TURN.
             (I) LABEL BOTTLE IDENTIFYING AGPU SAMPLED.

UNITS SHOULD FOLLOW THOSE PROVIDED IN PARA 8C FOR THE AGPU. THE
HYDRAULIC FLUID, INCLUDING THAT IN THE GSE RESERVOIR SHOULD BE
WARM AND RECENTLY CIRCULATED THROUGH THE HIGH PRESSURE FILTER
PRIOR TO SAMPLING. SAMPLING WILL NORMALLY BE TAKEN DOWN STREAM
FROM THE HIGH PRESSURE OUTPUT FILTER.
9. CORRECTION PROCEDURES -
    A. CONTAMINATION OF THE HYDRAULIC FLUID CAN BE CONTROLLED
THROUGH CAREFUL ATTENTION TO ALL EQUIPMENT AND PROCEDURES USED TO
SERVICE AND MAINTAIN AIRCRAFT HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS. HYDRAULIC FLUID
MUST BE KEPT IN SEALED CONTAINERS TO LIMIT ABSORPTION OF WATER
AND CONTAMINATION WITH AIRBORNE PARTICLES. USE OF HYDRAULIC
SERVICING UNITS/DISPENSERS THAT AUTOMATICALLY SEAL THE FLUID
CONTAINER AS IT IS PIERCED TO KEEP OUT MOISTURE AND CONTAMINATION
IS RECOMMENDED. ALL HYDRAULIC HOSE CONNECTORS WILL BE COVERED
WITH A CAP OR PLUG WHEN NOT IN USE. METAL PLUGS WITH O-RING SEALS
ARE RECOMMENDED IN PLACE OF PLASTIC CAPS. SEE PARA 10C FOR
RECOMMENDED ITEMS FOR USE IN THIS APPLICATION.
    B. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES ARE REQUIRED IF THE AOAP RECOMMENDS
THE AGPU BE DRAINED AND REFILLED BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE PARTICULATE
CONTAMINATION -
        (1) IF THE AGPU MAINTENANCE RECORDS INDICATE THAT THE
FILTER ELEMENTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS REPEAT
THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM SELF-FILTERING AND PURGING OPERATION IAW TM
55-1730-229-12, PAGE 3-23, PARA 3-10.
        (2) IF FILTER ELEMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED IN THE

AND HIGH PRESSURE FILTER ELEMENTS AND REFILL WITH CLEAN HYDRAULIC
FLUID IAW TM 55-1730-229-12, PARA 4-94 AND PARA 3-9 RESPECTIVELY.
        (3) REPEAT STEPS IN 8C(6)AND(7) TO TAKE AN ADDITIONAL
SAMPLE. THE AGPU IS NOW CLEARED FOR USE.
    C. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES ARE REQUIRED IF THE AOAP RECOMMENDS
THE AGPU BE DRAINED AND REFILLED BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE WATER CONTENT -
        (1) IF A HYDRAULIC PURIFIER IS AVAILABLE PURIFY THE AGPU IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROCEDURES PROVIDED WITH THE PURIFIER. THE AGPU
IS NOW CLEARED FOR USE.
        (2) IF NO HYDRAULIC PURIFIER IS AVAILABLE, REPEAT THE
SAMPLING PROCEDURE IN PARAGRAPH 8C WITH THE FOLLOWING CHANGES -
             (A) AFTER THE SYSTEM READY LIGHT COMES ON, CLOSE THE
HIGH PRESSURE BYPASS AND INCREASE PRESSURE TO 3300 PSI. OPEN BYPASS
UNTIL THE PRESSURE DROPS TO 3000 PSI.
             (B) OPEN THE RESERVOIR VENT. OPERATE AT 3000 PSI AND
OBSERVE FLUID TEMPERATURE. IF POSSIBLE MAINTAIN TEMPERATURE ABOVE
200 DEGREES F. OPEN BYPASS VALVE SO THAT THE FLUID TEMPERATURE
DOESN'T EXCEED 240 DEGREES F. AFTER 15 MINUTES AT 200-240 DEGREES F,
OR MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE ACHIEVABLE, CLOSE RESERVOIR VENT.
             (C) CLOSE HIGH PRESSURE BYPASS, REDUCE PRESSURE TO 500
PSI, SET POWER SWITCH TO OFF, AND SHUTDOWN ENGINE.
